Horní Slavkov

Slavkov ( German Schlaggenwald also Slawkenwalde ) is a city in the Czech Republic. It is located about 15 kilometers southwest of Karlovy Vary spa towns in the Triangle Karlovy Vary, Marianske Lazne and Lazne in a valley of the reserve Slavkov ( Kaiserwald ) and belongs to Okres Sokolov in the Carlsbad Region, Czech Republic. To the west rises the three peaks of Krudum ( 838 m).

Demographic data

In the town live about 5,600 inhabitants. At the end of World War Schlaggenwald counted 3,305 residents, including 39 Czechs.

History

Due to the occurrence of ores the Boii settled before the beginning of our era in the area of. 1202 was first mentioned in documents in the former Auerbach. The name of the village probably received Schlakkowald to 1333 by the founder of Slackko giant castle. 1300, the village was raised because of the demand for labor in the tin mines and the consequent growing population to the city. Particular merit to the place acquired the gentlemen Pflugk of Rabenstein, which built the Kaspar- Pflugk Sough in order to keep the mines of water. 1547 was King of Bohemia and later Emperor Ferdinand I confiscate the Pflugkschen possession; Schlaggenwald was Imperial Free mountain town. After the Battle of White Mountain in 1620, the return to the Catholic confession began. In the great fire of 1713 fell 76 houses were completely destroyed, also the St. Anne's Church and the hospital. 1742 Frenchman occupied Schlaggenwald. 1909 took the steam turbine to generate electricity. The German citizens were expropriated in 1945 and sold. After 1950, the demolition of large parts of posts originating from the Renaissance historical buildings of the city took place. After 1950 was the generous expansion of tin mining. For the miners, a new district has been built north of the center. Built in the style of the late - Stalinist urban planning, designed houses are grouped around a comparatively complex decorated with reliefs miners Culture House. In the city there is a Czech-German meeting center.

Economy

Around the 12th century flourished the former forest landscape by the incipient mining, in which up to 200 workers were employed, and the trade on. Beginning of the 14th century began with the mining of tin. 1792, the first porcelain factory was founded in Bohemia, later a button factory and a wool mill were added.
