Horriwil is a municipality in the district water office of the canton of Solothurn in Switzerland.

Geography

Horriwil is located on 455 m above sea level. M., in a straight line 7 km east-southeast of the canton of Solothurn main town. The village is located in a small depression in slightly increased on the eastern edge of the flood plain of the river Emme, in southern Solothurn Plateau.

Neighboring municipalities are in the north Subingen, in the east Hüniken and Etziken, in the south the newly founded in 2013 by three fusion community farms and in the west with the longest municipal boundary Oekingen.

History

The first written mention of the village was carried out in 1264 under the name Horgenwile. Later, the names Horgunwile published ( 1294 ), Horchenwile ( 1341 ), Horchiwyl ( 1589 ) and Horriwyl ( 1747 ). The name goes back to the Old High German personal name Horag, Horko or Horicon and means in the courts of the Horag / Horicon.

In the Middle Ages Horriwil initially formed their own little rule. Since the early 14th century, the village was part of the rule cheeks, which was under the suzerainty of the Count of Neu- Kyburg.
