Geography

Deitingen situated on 430 m above sea level. Level, 6 km east of the main town Canton Solothurn ( straight line ). The village extends on both sides of Ösch in the gravel plains of the Aare and Emme, in the Solothurn Plateau.

The area of ​​7.6 km ² large municipality area includes a portion of the groundwater- rich gravel plain in the water office. The area is only slightly in relief, it is on average 430 m above sea level. M. in the area of the bottom section of the route Ösch, ranges in the north part up to the Aare River and in the west to the A1 motorway. To Deitingen include the hamlet of Schachen (424 m above sea level. M. ) on Russ Bach, a side channel of the Ösch and Wilihof ( 427 m above sea level. M. ) in the plain south of the Aare. Population

With 2233 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) Deitingen belongs to the medium-sized municipalities in the canton of Solothurn. Of the residents 94.1 % are German, 1.2 % speak Serbo-Croatian and 1.1 % Italian ( as of 2000). The population of Deitingen amounted in 1850 to 551 inhabitants, 1900 to 832 inhabitants. History

The first written mention of the village was carried out in 1244 under the name Teytingen. Later, the names Theitingen ( 1246) Tétange ( 1248 ) published, Thetingen ( 1252) and Teitingin ( 1257 ). The name goes back to the Old High German personal name Teito and means with the suffix- ingen as much as the people of Teito.

Since the 13th century, the lords of Deitingen are detected, which were successively ministeriales of the Counts of Frohnburg, the Dukes of Zahringen and the Counts of Kyburg. The line died 1435th In 1428 came a part of the rule Deitingen to Solothurn, which exercised from now on the lower courts and a bailiff began. After the second part in 1520 went to Solothurn, Deitingen then became part of the Bailiwick Kriegstetten. It was not until 1665 Solothurn became the high jurisdiction over the village. After the collapse of the Ancien Régime (1798 ) belonged Deitingen during the Helvetic Republic to the district Biberist and from 1803 to the district Kriegstetten, which was officially renamed in 1988 in the district water office.

Two major fires (1720 and 1869) were drawn numerous houses damaged. Culture and sights

The old Catholic parish church St. Mary's was consecrated in 1476. From this time the bell tower, which was in 1707 an onion dome comes. The nave in the classical style was built from 1816 to 1819 and includes an interior from the 19th century, including an altarpiece of the Ascension of Christ. Next to the church stands the Anthony Chapel, the former charnel house ( restored in 1974 ). Economy and infrastructure

Traffic
