Hossein Ghods-Nakhai

Hossein Ghods - Nachai (Persian حسین قدس نخعی, French Nakhai, English Nakhaee; * 1911 in Mazandaran, † December 30, 1977 in Tehran ) was an Iranian poet, politician and diplomat. Ghods - Nachai was a member of the party Melliyune ( Nationalist Party ).

Family

Nachai was the son of an Iranian cleric, Hajj Agha Hassan Nachai. As with his father Hossein's last name was originally Nachai. In his youth Hossein Nachai was the editor of a literary magazine called Ghods, and he was known to everyone as " Mr. Ghods ". He added the word Ghods later added his last name. He married the daughter of the first Persian Ambassador to the United States, es- Sadr Saltaneh, also known as Hajji Washington.

Diplomatic and political career

Nachai became ambassador of Iran in Baghdad, London, Tokyo ( October 1956-January 1958 ) and Washington, DC (under the John F. Kennedy administration ). Between December 1 and December 30, 1960, he held the position of the Persian Minister for Foreign Affairs, as well as between 1961 and 1963. Thereafter, he was appointed Minister of the Royal Court, a post he held until 1968. Nachai was replaced as Minister of the court by Amir Assadollah Alam. Then he became ambassador to the Holy See ( the Vatican).

He was the chairman of the committee that negotiated with the Soviet Union on the return of the gold holdings of the Iranian National Bank, which had been spent by the Anglo -Soviet invasion of Iran by Soviet troops in the Soviet Union.

Literary life

Hossein Ghods - Nachai wrote extensive collections of poetry ( including his Robajat ) and prose ( including one with the title trail lost in heaven ). Some of his works have been translated into English and other languages ​​.
