Hot Water Music

Hot Water Music is a post-hardcore band from Gainesville, Florida, named after a book by Charles Bukowski.

Style

In the tradition of the British punk band Leatherface they combine rough and hoarse vocals with original and melancholic guitar work, which is highlighted by elaborate chord progressions and complex melodic structures. Especially pronounced is the bass playing of Jason Black, which is characterized by rapid finger picking. Pricing is also the two-part singing. In the texts mostly personal experiences are described, such as Minno, where it is about the suicide of a friend. In addition, the band for their emotional live shows are known.

The artwork of the album was designed with one exception from fellow artist Scott Sinclair.

History

The band was founded in 1994 by Chuck Ragan (guitar, vocals ), Chris Wollard (guitar, vocals), Jason Black (bass ) and George Rebelo (drums). They met had. At the local University of Florida Due to time constraints, the band toured initially only in a smaller environment, however, already produced several albums. Later they played concerts mainly in North America and Europe.

The concert at the Hard Back ( Live at the Hardback) in 1999 was intended as a farewell concert. However, Hot Water Music were quickly back together. On their European tour in 2000, they played in Germany a few concerts, among others with their mates, Muff Potter, with whom she also took up a split CD.

In 2005, singer and guitarist Chuck Ragan decided, after he had married for the second time, to care more about his family. The band announced on 14 May 2006, a longer hiatus.

The three remaining members formed up with the new member Todd " Wonderboy " Rock Hill on the band The Draft, Hot Water Music is similar stylistically. On 8 September 2006 their first album, In a Million Pieces appeared.

Chuck Ragan published on 18 May 2007 his solo live album Los Feliz. Its inspired by folk and bluegrass music is limited to acoustic guitar and harmonica. He is frequently accompanied with performances by a mandolin and a fiddle. On 23 August 2007 the first studio album Feast or Famine appeared. Since then, Ragan published some more studio and live albums, as well as a variety of 7 " singles.

In spring 2008, Hot Water Music was again with Chuck Ragan to tour.

George Rebelo was from 2009 until the end of 2010 drummer for Against Me!. During this time he was replaced by Dave Raun ( Lagwagon ).

In May 2012, released a new studio album called Exister. In the wake of the publication of this disk, the band also several club and festival shows playing in Germany.

Side projects

Chris Wollard and George Rebelo worked in The Blacktop Cadence, played the quieter emo-rock.

Wollard and Chuck Ragan founded Rumble Seat, where they played with acoustic guitars folk songs and among other things they covered in addition to original compositions and pieces by Johnny Cash.

In addition, Wollard was in the hardcore punk band CRO (W) S active as a singer and guitarist. The songs seem faster and harder than with Hot Water Music, but mostly to do without this tune. The album Durty Bunny was released in 2003 on LP on Sounds of Subterrania and digital private label on Wollards

2009 brought Chris Wollard & The Shipthieves their eponymous album out ( No Idea ) on the other under George Rebelo played drums.
