Hřensko

Hřensko ( German Herrnskretschen ) is a municipality in the Czech Republic. It lies in the north of the country on the border to Germany, where the Kamenice ( German Kamnitz ) flows into the Elbe. He is the lowest place in Bohemia and the Czech Republic ( 112.5 m nm).

Place name

The name probably derives from Herrnskretschen from the family name Horniss and Kretscham. The Czech name Hřensko comes from an entry in the Bohemian Landtafel of 1623 (wes Hržensko ginak Hernskrecžem = the village Hržensko or Hernskrecžem ).

History

Herrnskretschen was first mentioned in 1475. Quarries, rafting and timber trade some for a long time economic development. Again and again suffered the location of flood damage the Elbe and the Kamnitz that are verifiable since 1501 and regularly recur. Also found since the 19th century repeatedly news about rockfalls of sandstone cliffs above the village.

The largest is the collapse of the Marie rock above the later manor house have been, however, there is to this event no written tradition. The former center of the town was located at the banks of the Elbe below the Kamnitzmündung to the lower inn, the Hornskratschn. The inn, which is probably originated at the beginning of the 14th century to a bin of rafting, can be demonstrated in writing since 1445. After 1786 the Kamnitz the church was built, the center of the town shifted into the side valley.

The old boatman and fisherman, who was since the Thirty Years War in the Princely House Clary Aldringens, developed after 1860 became a popular recreation and Wandererort. Dominant feature of the townscape was the product obtained from the lower tavern mansion that served as an inn and hotel. 1932 sold the family of Clary Aldringens the large building for 688,000 crowns to the Czech state forest, as they did not look after expropriation and the construction of a hunting lodge in Hohenleipa for carrying out the necessary construction work in the situation. In 1938, on the right bank of the Elbe, the new road was built by Decin to Dresden, the mansion stood in the way and was demolished.

The second significant tavern was the Upper tavern in Kamnitztal, which had been founded in 1550 by Friedrich von Salhausen. The economy at the bridge to Jonsdorf near the church later became known as Hotel " Deutsches Haus ". After 1945 it has been run as a hotel " Český Lev " on. After a fire, it was demolished.

The tradition of catches of salmon in Kamnitzbach was continued with the Brutaussatz in the year 1998. In the hundred-year flood of the Elbe in August 2002 Hřensko has been almost completely flooded by the Elbe river and the backwater of Kamnitz and suffered severe damage. Shortly before had to be closed in the period from March to June 2002, parts of the village, as a large rockfall threatened. In August 2010, heavy rains triggered a flood of Kamnitz, which caused severe damage in Hřensko. There the road bridge was destroyed at the end of the village and some pedestrian bridges. Over longer distances, the seawall was washed away, the tourist boat trips Edmund Gorge and Wild Gorge suffered heavy damage. The boat trips in the Edmundsklamm could be resumed at Easter 2011.

Community structure

The municipality consists of the villages Hřensko Hřensko ( Herrnskretschen ) and Mezná ( Stimmersdorf ), at the same time also form Katastralbezirke. Basic settlement units are Hřensko, Mezná and Brana ( Rain meadow).

Transport links

The right of same -lying place Hřensko has two border crossings. Besides its importance for outings Hřensko lives mainly from shopping tourism, dominated as in other border Czech places of Vietnamese traders. The Situated close to the border crossing duty free shop was converted into a travel -free shop in March 2004 due to the EU accession of the Czech Republic.
