Hungary at the 1924 Winter Olympics

Hungary participated in the Olympic Winter Games in 1924 in Chamonix with a delegation of four athletes in one sport part. The Hungarian NOK had reported 13 athletes to the games, 4 of which participated in competitions. An athlete participated for the second time in the Olympic Games in part:

Balance Sheet: Similar to the Austrians also donated Hungary's participation in the Winter Games some unrest in the ranks of athletes and officials. After all, the country was associated with Austria and Germany as a warmonger of the First World War. While Austria and Hungary were invited to the Games of the VIII Olympiad in 1924 to Paris and Chamonix, the French Germany denied the subscriber. Hungary would have had good medal chances in figure skating. But the veteran reported Andor Szende ( World Cup bronze medalist in 1910, 1912 and 1913 as well as European vice-champion in 1913 ) did not travel to. Also Opika of Meray Horvath, Figure Skating World Champion of 1913 and 1914, felt no particular interest in Olympic participation and this had not even promised. The reported bobsleigh team also did not travel, so that in the end only four skiers should represent the young republic. Among them, two athletes. István Devan took in 1912 in Stockholm on 200 m running part and Bela Szepes is four years later at the Games of the IX. Olympics 1928 win bronze in the javelin. Here in Chamonix the Hungarians did not stand a chance and are always found at the end of the field again, if they ever finish the competition.
