Switzerland at the 1924 Winter Olympics
The Switzerland participated in the Olympic Winter Games in 1924 in Chamonix with a delegation of 27 athletes in four sports part. The Swiss NOK had reported 42 athletes to the games, 27 of which participated in competitions. The members of the military patrol do not count as official Olympic participants. A total of five athletes were already for the second time at the Olympic Games here:
- Louis Dufour (1920 Ice Hockey)
- Max Holzboer (1920 Ice Hockey)
- Marius Jaccard (1920 Ice Hockey)
- Bruno Leuzinger (1920 Ice Hockey)
- René Savoie (1920 Ice Hockey)
Balance: The Confederates had it by all nodes on the next. Chamonix is situated a few kilometers from the Swiss border and so it happened that a large contingent of 42 athletes should participate in the winter sports week. At the end there were only 27 who competed in the competitions. Gold for the military patrol Lieutenant Denis Vaucher and for the four-man event by Eduard Scherrer and bronze for the skaters Georges Gautschi. A balance sheet that can be seen, especially as the third place Gautschi came as a complete surprise. Afterwards: The Gold Medal of the military patrol was unofficial, not counted - as a demonstration event - and as gold and bronze remain only one each left for the results lists. The highly favored curling team was, for any reason whatsoever, shall not arrived. The skiers were expected to be in the midfield and fought mainly with the Italians and the Czechoslovaks to the courts by the Scandinavians. Best were here Walter Buchberger 7th place in the Nordic combined and Alexandre Girardbille 8th place in ski jumping.
