Hungary national football team

The Hungarian national football team is managed organizationally by the Hungarian Football Federation (Hungarian Magyar Labdarúgó Szövetség ). She stood in 1938 and 1954 in the World Cup final.

History

The match against Austria in Vienna on 12 October 1902 was the first international match, which was played between two non - British European opponents. This duel was so far over 100 reissues, only the duel Argentina - Uruguay took place more often.

By a very early professionalization of the Hungarian Football League back in the 20s of the 20th century as one of the first countries in continental Europe, the Hungarian football in Europe gained a leading position in the period between the 30s and 60s. This was already in the World Cup 1938 in France, when you playfully played with 13:1 gates into the final, but there the reigning World Champions Italy were beaten 2:4.

Hungary was, inter alia, also the first non -British national team, which beat England on English soil. This happened on 25 November 1953 in Wembley with a so not expected 6:3. This game is considered in Hungary even today as " Game of the Century ". The following year England was defeated again, this time 7-1 in Budapest. This is England's biggest defeat to date.

Of 14 May 1950 to July 4, 1954 was the Hungarian national team in 31 international matches unbeaten until they lost the World Cup final Germany. This record was not until almost forty years later hired by Argentina, the 1991 to 1993 also managed a series of 31 unbeaten internationals. The Hungarian team this time, which was considered by far the strongest in the world, has gone down as the 'Golden Elf ( Aranycsapat ) in the story.

Triggered by the popular uprising in 1956 against Soviet domination in Hungary and the subsequent flight of many stars of the Hungarian football abroad has triggered a noticeable decline. At the World Championships in Chile in 1962 and 1966 in England the stars of the Golden Team of the 50's emulation; Hungarian footballer young generation with some outstanding performances could still twice reached the quarterfinals of the World Cup and a third place at the European Championships in 1964. So we switched, for example at the 1966 World Cup in England the otherwise 1958-1970 dominating with three World Championship titles opponents Brazil in spite of so eminent enemy players like Garrincha, Tostão, Gilmar, Djalma Santos and Jairzinho with a 3-1 victory from.

Hungary won at this time in the in the Communist countries very important Olympic football tournaments in 1952, 1964 and 1968 Olympic gold medal.

A last major success was celebrated with a fourth place finish at the 1972 European Championship. Since then, however, the Hungarian national football team tried in vain to build on the past successes.

Today, Hungary is a less formidable opponent who failed to reach the World Cup finals more since 1986, and since 1972 no European Championship finals. So they lost in 2006, for example, during qualifying for the 2008 European Championship 1-2 against Malta.

However, on 22 August 2007, the team defeated surprising world champions Italy 3-1 in a friendly match in Puskas Ferenc Stadium in Budapest.

The goal of Hungary during the qualifying matches for the 2010 World Cup was to qualify for the first time since the 1986 World Cup in Mexico again for a World Cup. To achieve this goal, Hungary had Erwin Koeman committed as national coach. Hungary, however, were randomly assigned with Portugal, Sweden and Denmark three strong opponents against which they ultimately did not succeed.

In September 2011, Hungary reached 27th place, the best ever position in the FIFA World Ranking.

After failing to qualify for the FIFA World Cup in 2014 under Attila Sándor Egervári Pinter was in December 2013 as the new coach and will lead the team in qualifying for Euro 2016.
