Awards

Hunger celebrated its world premiere in competition at the 19th International film festival in Cannes, where the film is in competition for the Grand Prix was also represented. Per Oscarsson protagonist became the first Scandinavian Actor Best Actor of the film festival. Oscarsson was a year later honored for the part of Pontus well with the Danish Bodil and the Swedish Guldbagge and won the 1969 Best Actor Award of the U.S. National Society of Film Critics ( NSFC ). The film was also awarded the 1967 Bodil for Best Danish film.
