History

History under Iberojet

In 2000, the Iberostar Group decided to expand their travel offer by cruises and therefore founded the Iberojet Cruceros. These in turn formed with the ferry company Trasmediterranea and the Greek Festival Cruises in equal proportions, the joint venture Spanish Cruise Lines and chartered as the first ship the Bolero for trips from Barcelona to the western Mediterranean. It was followed in 2002 the Crown / Mare Nostrum from Valencia.

After the bankruptcy Festival Cruises in 2004 was Iberojet Cruceros sole owner of the Spanish Cruise Lines and led the ship operating under its own name from now on. The company chartered in the same year, the Voyager of the financially troubled shipping company Royal Olympic Cruise Lines and Star Cruises acquired from their already somewhat obsolete in the years Super Star Capricorn. The latter was sold but after only one year cruise service as Grand Latino again in 2005.

In early summer 2006, the Orizonia Corporation was created as the new parent company of the Iberojet. The owners of Iberostar had decided to divide the group into three areas: Iberostar Hotels and Resort, Grupo Receptor ( travel agencies) and Grupo Emisor ( tours, cruises, airlines) and with the exception of hotels for sale. The shares went for 900 million to private equity firms Carlyle Group to 55 %, Vista Capital to 36%, ICG Equity Fund to 5% and the remaining 4% as a management buy-out of ten senior staff.

Ibero Cruceros

Ibero Cruceros was founded in 2007 as a joint venture between the Orizonia Corporation and Carnival Corporation & plc. Although the new brand actually stood in competition with the offerings of the Carnival subsidiary Costa Cruises, said Micky Arison, chairman and chief executive of Carnival, its growth targets in the Spanish mass market, the fourth largest in Europe, with an experienced local partner to achieve faster and better to be able to. Carnival held from the very start, the majority of three quarters. In May 2009, they agreed on the complete takeover by Carnival to the acquisition of the remaining shares for 33 million euros.

Fleet

The ownership and responsibility for the operation of vessels is since 2007 the Italian Carnival subsidiary Costa Crociere SpA based in Genoa. In contrast to the rest of the Ibero Cruceros fleet vessels flying the flag of Portugal, with Madeira as a home port.

Striking visible at the two current ships is their origin by Carnival Cruise Lines. The typical " whale tail " called chimney shape for their vessels was not changed, just repainted.
