Ice Hockey Iceland

The Íshokkísamband Íslands ( IHI short; Hockey Association of Iceland ) is the national hockey association based in Reykjavík Iceland (next to the sports hall Laugardalshöllin and opposite the National Stadium Laugardalsvöllur ). The association is one of the sports federations of the Icelandic Sports Association Íþrótta -og Ólympíusamband Íslands ( ISI) and full member of the International Ice Hockey Federation ( IIHF ), in which he was taken on May 6, 1992. He is the umbrella organization for more than 600 players who are active in the following five clubs: Íshokkífélagið Björninn, Skautafélag Akureyrar, Skautafélag Reykjavík, Jakarnir Vestmannaeyjum and Narfi frá Hrísey. Current president is Viðar Garðarsson.

In Iceland, three ice rinks were built in the years 1997, 2000 and 2003, two of them in the capital and one in Akureyri.

Tasks

The association takes care mainly to the implementation of the Games of the Icelandic national ice hockey team and the women's team and the junior teams. In addition, the association organizes the sport at club level, including in the Icelandic Hockey League, whose champion will since 1992 for men and 2000 for women determined.
