Ignatz Award

The Ignatz Award is a prize awarded annually since 1997 award as a tribute to the outstanding achievements by alternative artist, authors and publishers in the field of comics cartoons. It is named after a character named Ignatz from the cartoon classic Krazy Kat by George Herriman. The winners will be determined by the participants of the Small Press Expo ( SPX), an alternative fan convention, which every September or October in Bethesda, Maryland near Washington DC takes place. 2001 SPX and thus exposed to the Ignatz Award because of the attacks of 11 September 2001. Candidates for the award are nominated by a five-member jury of experts and major Professional from the comic art.
