Igorot people

The Igorot (also Cordillerano ) are an indigenous people who live on the Philippine island of Luzon.

Its traditional territory is located in the Cordillera Central in northern Luzon, and the Cordillera Administrative Region comprises the provinces of Abra, Apayao, Benguet, Ifugao, Kalinga, Mountain Province and the city of Baguio.

The Igorot can be divided into two groups: the larger inhabited the southern, central and western areas, and lay on rice terraces. The smaller group settled in the east and north. Both groups were once headhunters.

Strains

The following strains are distinguished:

  • Apayao: (also Isneg and Dibagat - Kabugao - Isneg ): settle on the river Apayao, built earlier dry rice to.

  • Ifugao: (also Amganad, Ayangan, Kiangan, Gilipanes, Quiangan, Tuwali Ifugao and Mayoyao ): their rice terraces were to tourist magnet.
  • Ibaloi (also Ibaloy and Nabaloi ) inhabit the southern Benguet, known is their consuming Pesshet hard and the Kabayan mummies.

  • Balangao: live in the central Mountain Province, especially in the municipality Balangao. They use the language Farangao.
