İhsan Doğramacı

Ihsan Doğramacı ( born April 3, 1915 in Arbil, Ottoman Empire (now Iraq), † 25 February, 2010 Ankara, Turkey ) was a Turkish turkmenischstämmiger professor and doctor of medicine.

Life

Doğramacı visited Arbil in the school and then moved to Beirut, where he led the International College, which is affiliated with the American University of Beirut in 1932, graduated. After that, he spent three years at the medical faculty of the University of Baghdad. Thereafter he went to Turkey, where he graduated in 1938 made ​​as a physician in Istanbul. This was followed by years in the United States, where he worked in Washington DC and worked in Boston.

In 1942 he married Ayser Hanim, the daughter of an Iraqi politician is. 1949 Doğramacı became a lecturer at the University of Ankara and in 1954 he was promoted to professor. In 1958 he founded the Hacettepe University Children's Hospital. Between 1963 and 1965 he was the director of the University of Ankara. From 1967 to 1975 he was the director of Hacettepe University. 1964 to 1973 he was a board member of the European Universities ' Conference ( CRE). From 1981, he was temporarily Board Member, President and Honorary President of the International Conference on Higher Education ( ICHE ). From 1981 to 1992 he was the president of the Turkish Higher Education Council ( YOK ). In 1984 he founded the private Bilkent University, whose current rector is his son Ali Doğramacı.

Doğramacı was an honorary member of the Club of Rome and winners of the honorary of the Turkish Parliament. In addition, he was awarded the European Pro- Humanitate price. He was the Honorary President of the International Association of Pediatrics.

From 1958, he stood in front until his death in the Turkish national Committee for UNICEF. He also worked for the World Health Organization and helped in the construction of medical schools in different countries.
