The Illitschiwez Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium in the Ukrainian city of Mariupol. It can accommodate 12,680 spectators and is used, among other things, the football club Illitschiwez Mariupol as homestead.

History

The Illitschiwez Stadium in Mariupol, a city of nearly half a million inhabitants in the Donetsk Oblast in eastern Ukraine on the shore of the Azov Sea, was built in 1956 and still opened in the same year. Four years later, the club was founded in Mariupol Mariupol Illitschiwez. This, consisting of various sports departments, the stadium then used as a venue for competitions in athletics and in their sports. When in 1996 the football section of the club was launched, this also began to use the Illitschiwez Stadium, which was known under the name Novator Stadium then as the home stadium. To date, the football department of Illitschiwez Mariupol could as greatest success winning the Perscha Liha, the second highest Ukrainian football league in the 2007/ 08 season, recorded. Currently playing in the first division in the Ukrainian football, the Premjer - Liha where currently in mid-table placements were achieved regularly.

In the Erstligasaison 2003/ 04 Illitschiwez Mariupol presented the fairest team in the league, qualifying through the Fair Play rankings for the UEFA Cup in 2004/05. Here, the Illitschiwez stadium -based the first round match against FC Bananz Yerevan from Armenia, the Mariupol won 2-0, and the game of the second round against FK Austria Vienna, which ended with a goalless draw to an end. Nowadays the Illitschiwez stadium can accommodate 12,680 spectators. It is often used by the Ukrainian national football team of women for internationals. The Illitschiwez Stadium was one of the selected venues for the U -19 Football Championship in 2009, the orientation was able to secure the Ukraine. As the second biggest tournament stadium, the games took place exclusively in Donetsk and Mariupol, the Illitschiwez stadium -based three group games and a semifinal. The final, in which the Ukraine with a 2-0 victory against England won the European title, rose about 25,000 people comprehensive RSK Olimpijskyj, the former home stadium of FC Shakhtar Donetsk.
