In a Glass House is the fifth studio album by British progressive rock band Gentle Giant. It appeared in 1973 at Vertigo Records.

Creation and publication

The third Shulman - brother, Phil, Gentle Giant Octopus left after to work again as a teacher. In a Glass House was without replacing him, taken in July 1973 in the London Advision studios. It should be a concept album for saying " People who live in glass houses should not throw stones ".

Gentle Giants American label Columbia Records wanted the album in the USA were not published because it did not expect a financial success of it. Consequently, the album was only available there as an import until the 1990s. About Terrapin Trucking, Kerry Minnears Alucard Music and Derek Shulman DRT Entertainment published from 1992 over and over again several CD reissues of In a Glass House, partially remastered from the original tapes or with bonus tracks that consisted of live recordings.

Gentle Giant also perform as a quintet on its characteristic style with crooked strokes, tempo changes, percussion effects, comprehensive instrumentation, layered vocals and counterpoints. New features on In a Glass House more emphasis on rock music as well as some bonds of jazz and medieval or Renaissance music.

Reception

In a Glass House is considered a classic of the band and progressive rock. The music magazine eclipsed it chose to eleventh place its list of the 150 most important prog albums. Udo Gerhards of the Baby Blue Pages praised the album as " [m ] itreissend and intelligent" and sees Gentle Giant here " at the height of their creative powers ."
