International Young Democrat Union

The International Young Democrat Union, IYDU short, is a non-governmental umbrella organization of political center-right youth organization around the world who are committed to the goals of promoting freedom and the rule of law.

In German-speaking boy Union of Germany, the Young People's Party of Austria and the boy are Christian Democratic Party of Switzerland and the Young Generation in the South Tyrolean People's Party member associations of IYDU.

The first chairman of the IYDU Elmar Brok MEP is the Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the European Parliament.

Goals and Principles

The four basic principles of the organization are democracy, respect for human rights, free markets and free trade. Particular attention is to halt the state interventionism and socialism worldwide halt. This will IYDU an active contribution to the work of IDU (International Democrat Union), to which they inspired the content and organization, afford. German members in IDU are the parties, the CDU and CSU. The aim of the IYDU events is to improve the contact between the member organizations to exchange ideas and develop that promote the principles of the organization. In this context, it is currently the campaign, " Campaign for Religious Freedom " and led another campaign against left-wing populism is in preparation. Particular attention is paid to Belarus, where Member organizations IYDU are active under difficult political conditions.

Design and Structure

In IYDU over 125 member organizations have come together from more than 80 countries from all continents. They are all the center-right parties in the respective countries and regions near and thus take active part in the political life in their countries participated. From Germany the Junge Union is a member. The IYDU can join any national, regional or international political organization that supports the " Declaration of Principles " of the organization and is committed to its objectives and principles. The "Declaration of Principles" is the founding document of the IYDU. IYDU was at the conference in Washington, D.C. (United States) established in 1981.

The Council ( "Council") consists of the patron, the officers and affiliates of IYDU. The Council shall elect the officers and accepts reports of officers and the member organizations. The Board of Directors (Board) carries out the supervision of the daily activities and is among other things responsible for setting the budget.

The current chairman of the IYDU is Aris Kalafatis of ONNED (Greece). German board members are Past Chairman Daniel Walther and Board Member Thomas Schneider ( both of Germany, Junge Union ). Patron of the organization is the former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher.

On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall was the IYDU Annual Congress from 25 to 28 November 2009 in Berlin. The former candidate of the Junge Union, Daniel Walther, was elected to the subsequent Council meeting in London in December 2010 unanimously elected Chairman. In March 2011, a board meeting in the Iraqi Kurdish Arbil took place with around 30 participants. From 23 - 26th June was followed by the Freedom Forum 2011 in Bogotá ( Colombia), in September, the second board meeting in Moscow in October and a Study Trip to South Korea. At the Council Meeting with the annual election was held from 9th - 13th January 2012 in Sydney, Australia instead, Nicolas Figari ( Chile) was elected as the new Chairman and Aris Kalafatis (Greece ) as Deputy Chairman. From the 12th - 15th April 2012 was elected at the first board meeting after the work-related withdrawal Figari his deputy Aris Kalafatis (Greece ) as its new Chairman. From the 12th - 15th July 2012 strengthened IYDU with the Freedom Forum in Rabat / Morocco 's position in the MENA region. Along with numerous participants from the region were sought and discussed ways to support democratic movements in MENA. The "Arab Spring" was chiefly driven by the young generation.

The inclusion of more than 20 new member organizations at the Sydney Council meeting shows the high attractiveness of IYDU for political youth organizations - worldwide.
