Isuzu Panther

Crosswind, HiLander and Panther are three identical models of the Japanese manufacturer Isuzu. In 1990 it was made for the first time on the basis of licenses from Toyota and developed according to market losses in its home market to a stand-alone model. The second, current model generation is an independent development of Isuzu.

First generation

The MPV was developed in its original form in the late 1970s by the Indonesian Department of Toyota Motor Corporation Toyota Kijang as. With the third generation of the model that has been built since 1986, the model was also outside Indonesia a high request. Toyota had view of that, very easy to find there are companies that are ready to assemble the model as a CKD kit in their countries and to market. Thus, the model including as Toyota Venture ( South Africa) and or Toyota Zaice (Vietnam) became known. But for the Japanese market MPV for Isuzu seemed to be promising. Thus, the Isuzu Motors Corporation purchased 1989 licenses for the production of the body and vehicle parts. The motors wanted Isuzu also produced in our own production. So rolled in the fall of 1990, the first Isuzu Panther from the band and was available on the Japanese market. With its compact design, the model was a success but only with dealers and suppliers. Despite all this, the production in Indonesia, the Philippines, and Thailand, and Vietnam was accepted as a direct competitor to the Toyota model. The South African model was imported from Japan. There, the production of the model, however, stopped by 1994. A slight facelift gave the HiLander a new opportunity. With the new design of the Panther now was interesting in some individuals. But like its predecessor, also this model could only hold up in the spring of 2007 in production due to declining sales. Held on the other markets, however, the first generation model of the cross wind or HiLander until the summer of 2007 production. Toyota retained its model also more years unchanged in production.

Second generation

After the market rout of the Panthers, the model was revived after a major overhaul in the spring of 2001 in a new generation. Since Toyota did not renew the model and also in South Africa, the venture replaced by the Condor, they were forced to create its own model. After about four years of work on the adaptation of design to modern vehicle design, the new model was presented. But this time the Japanese model, the panther, was a flop. Crosswind and HiLander other hand, were a success and are still in series production. The Panther is currently supplied to order only as an import model from Indonesia.

Between 2002 and 2009, the AUV was offered in Russia. This was also based on the Panther, but was offered with a far larger body selection. A few years later necessary licenses have been acquired by General Motors for the production. Since the model is built and offered as Chevrolet Tavera and Chevrolet Tavera Neo in India and Indonesia.
