Ivan Majeský

Ivan Majeský ( born September 2, 1976 in Banská Bystrica, Czechoslovakia) is a Slovak ice hockey player, who was last to 2011 when Skellefteå AIK in the Swedish Elitserien under contract.

Career

Ivan Majeský began his career as a hockey player with the ŠaHK Iskra Banská Bystrica, for which he was active in the Slovak Extraliga from 1995 to 1999, before moving to their league rivals HKm Zvolen shortly before the end of the 1998/99 season. With Zvolen he was in the following season runner-up. Then the defender signed a contract with Ilves Tampere of the SM- liiga in Finland he was on the ice for two years. During this time he was selected in the NHL Entry Draft in the ninth round in 2001 when a total of 267 players from the Florida Panthers, where he graduated in the 2002/03 season all 82 regular season games in the National Hockey League. After a season of Slovak again left the Panthers and also played a season long for their league rivals Atlanta Thrashers.

Due to the lockout in the 2004/ 05 NHL season Majeský returned to Europe, where he ran aground on the HC Sparta Prague in the Czech Extraliga. Following the resumption of gaming operations in the NHL the Slovak returned to North America where he received a one-year contract with the Washington Capitals. Also in the capital, the right-handed shooter was only for one season, before returning to Europe. In the following three seasons, he started the season twice in Kärpät Oulu and once for HIFK Helsinki of the SM- liiga in order to obtain a tax-advantaged half- year contract in Sweden. There, the Slovak season ended when each Elitserien club Linköpings HC. With the Swedes he was in 2007 and 2008 runner-up. The 2009/10 season he began as Players out on loan in the Czech Extraliga during the HC Kladno and then played for Skellefteå AIK in the Elitserien. The following season he won the Swedish runner-up with the Skellefteå AIK also. Since then, he is without a club.

Internationally

For Slovakia Majeský participated in the World Championships in 2003, 2004, 2005, 2008, 2010 and 2011. In addition, he was in the squad of Slovakia at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, as well as the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin.
