Jacob Mueller

Jacob Müller ( born March 9, 1822 in Alsenz; † August 31, 1905 ) was a lawyer, an insurance salesman and politicians.

Life

Jacob Müller studied law and was appointed after the outbreak of the French Revolution of February 1848 in the Palatinate of the provisional government in Kaiserslautern for civil commissioner for the district Kirchheimbolanden. After the defeat of the Palatinate uprising he fled to Switzerland and from there emigrated to the United States, where he settled in Cleveland ( Ohio).

In 1854, he opened with Louis Knight and Benjamin Beavies a law firm and founded in 1858 the fire insurance Germania Fire Insurance Company, which he headed until 1869. In 1856 he was chosen by the German liberal Democrats in the city council of Cleveland. Müller was opposed to slavery and was a delegate participated in the Pittsburgh convention. 1871 Jacob Müller was elected as a Republican to the Lieutenant Governor of Ohio, after which he served as deputy Governor Edward F. Noyes 1872-1874. Under President Grover Cleveland he was Consul-General in 1885 for the United States in Frankfurt am Main. In 1889 he resigned this office. Jacob Müller died on 31 August 1905 and was buried in the Woodland Cemetery.
