James Marsh (director)

James Marsh ( born April 30, 1963 in Truro, Cornwall ) is a British film director and documentary filmmaker, who is above all for his cult film Wisconsin Death Trip (1999) with Marcus Monroe and Ian Holm known. He won the 2008 Academy Award for the documentary Man on Wire.

Film career

Marsh studied at St. Catherine 's College, Oxford and began his film career with several film documentary Manta tions for the BBC. His first film documentary was Troubleman - The Last Years of Marvin Gaye and the singer Marvin Gaye, followed by The Magician of Prague about Jan Svankmajer and his work as surrealist film director. It was followed by The Burger and the King: The Life and Cuisine of Elvis Presley on Elvis Presley and his eating disorders. and a Dokumentaton about John Cale (1998). He also produced three episodes of the documentary series Arena.

In 2005, he turned The King, a film drama about a laid-off from the United States Navy soldier who sets out to search for his missing father in Corpus Christi, Texas. The film was shown at the International Film Festival of Cannes 2005.

In 2008 he filmed the documentary Man on Wire about Philippe Petit and his tightrope across the Twin Towers, it is not only the Oscar but also the British Academy Film Award, an Independent Spirit Award, a nomination for the European Film Awards and the Sundance Film Festival the jury Prize and the Audience Award for Best Foreign documentary earned.

2011 followed Project Nim Elizabeth Hess ' book Nim Chimpsky: The Chimp Who Would Be Human and 2012 Shadow Dancer on the IRA.
