James Russell Leech

James Russell Leech ( born November 19, 1888 in Ebensburg, Cambria County, Pennsylvania, † February 5, 1952 in Chevy Chase, Maryland ) was an American politician. Between 1927 and 1932 he represented the State of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

James Leech attended the common schools and the local high schools and the Mercersburg Academy. In 1911, he graduated from Washington & Jefferson College in Washington ( Pennsylvania). After a subsequent law studies at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia and his 1915 was admitted to the bar he began in Ebensburg to work in this profession. During the First World War, he served 1917-1919 as a lieutenant in the United States Army. Politically, he joined the Republican Party.

In the congressional elections of 1926, Leech was in the 20th electoral district of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Anderson Howell Walters on March 4, 1927. After two re- elections he could remain until his resignation on 29 January 1932 at the Congress. Since 1929 the work of the U.S. House of Representatives was shaped by the events of the Great Depression.

James Leech's resignation was after his appointment as Judge of the Federal Tax Court. He held that post until his death on February 5, 1952 in Chevy Chase, and was buried in his home town of Ebensburg.
