Javier Vázquez

Javier Carlos Vázquez ( born July 5, 1976 in Ponce, Puerto Rico ) is a Puerto Rican baseball player in Major League. As of the 2011 season he plays in the Florida Marlins as a pitcher.

Career

Vázquez began his professional career with the Montreal Expos, who selected him in the fifth round of the 1994 MLB draft. His first as a pitcher in the MLB he had on 3 April 1998 for the Expos. When the Canadian team, he came as a Starting Pitcher for use. In December, the Expos Vázquez transferred to the New York Yankees and in return received Nick Johnson, Juan Rivera and Randy Choate. Although he was elected because of his performances at the Yankees in the AL All- Star team, he stayed just one season in New York and was transferred in January 2005, together with other players to the Arizona Diamondbacks; the Yankees received for Randy Johnson. Even with the Diamondbacks remained Vázquez only a year and was transferred to the end of the 2005 season to the Chicago White Sox.

In Chicago Vázquez was able to return to its previous performance. In 2007 he had a record of 15-8 with an ERA of 3.74. After a rather weak 2008 season (12-16, 4:46 ERA ) Vázquez was transferred along with Boone Logan to the Atlanta Braves. Here he had 2009 so far best season of his career: 15-10, 2.87 ERA and 238 strikeouts in 32 starts. In the vote for the Cy Young Award he came in fourth place.

In December 2009, Vázquez returned to the New York Yankees. He was given a victory over the Angels here on 21 July 2010 on the third player in the history of the MLB, who has beaten all 30 teams in the MLB (next to Barry Zito and Jamie Moyer ). Once, however, his performance deteriorated in August, offset the Yankees Vázquez in the bullpen and gave Iván Nova fifth place in the rotation.

Following the close of the 2010 season, the Yankees did not renew the contract with Vázquez. On 2 December 2010 he signed a one -year contract for seven million dollars at the Florida Marlins.

In the World Baseball Classic Vázquez went in both 2006 and 2009 for Puerto Rico at the start (2006: 1-0, 2:25 ERA in two starts; 2008: 2-0, 0.96 ERA in two starts ).

Private life

Vázquez is married and together with his wife chamomile three children: Kamilla, Javier Josué and Kariana.
