Jean de Montfort (died 1283)

John of Montfort († November 27, 1283 ) was lord of Toron and Tyre.

He was the son of Philip of Montfort, Lord of Castres, La Ferte- Alais and Bréthencourt, Tyre and Toron, and his second wife Maria of Antioch - Armenia.

When he came of age, his father gave him dominion Toron, which was, however, captured in 1266 by the Mamluks. On September 22, 1268 he married Margaret of Lusignan (* 1244, † 1308), daughter of Henry of Antioch and Isabella of Cyprus. Margaret was the sister of King Hugh III. of Cyprus, who later was also used as Hugo I. King of Jerusalem. On the occasion of the wedding confirmed Hugo the ownership of the Montfort on Tyre, but retained the right to rule them, provided John and Margaret were without heirs.

1270 his father was murdered by assassins. Johann escaped the attack just barely. Johann inherited from his father, now the rule Tyre, which he ruled until his death in 1283. Since John had no children, allowed King John's younger brother Hugo Humphrey to inherit from him in Tyre.
