Jean-Louis Barrault

Jean -Louis Barrault ( born September 8, 1910 in Le Vésinet; † January 22, 1994 in Paris) was a French actor, mime and director.

Biography

During his studies at Étienne Decroux debuted Barrault with 21 years at the Théâtre de l'Atelier. From 1935 he staged with its own troops (eg Hamlet by Jules Laforgue, hunger for Knut Hamsun ) and played in various films (eg Les beaux jours, Jenny, L'Or dans la Montagne, Sous les yeux d ' occident ). He became best known for his 1943 to 1945, when he played the mime Baptiste Debureau, which is based on the real Jean- Gaspard Deburau in the film Children of Paradise by Marcel Carné.

In 1940, Jean -Louis Barrault was appointed to the Comédie Française. In the same year he married the actress Madeleine Renaud and. Together they founded in 1947 the private stage Compagnie Renauld - Barrault at the Théâtre Marigny and took with this group toured extensively to South America (eg, São Paulo, Montevideo, Buenos Aires, Santiago de Chile). The Théâtre Marigny is later known as the home of the first concerts of the Domaine Musical.

On her return to Paris Barrault and Renaud in 1959 the directors of the Théâtre national de France. As Barrault during Maiunruhen 1968, the venue at the Odéon opened his students, he was removed from his post and banned from all state-subsidized theaters Minister of Culture André Malraux.

In May 1974, the band managed to Barrault the creation of a new theater in the (then abandoned ) railway station Gare d' Orsay. When the Compagnie Renaud- Barrault had to give way to the ( present ) Museum there in 1981, it was built by the French government with the Théâtre du Rond-Point in the building of the former Panorama ( 1838-1894 ) and the Palais des Glaces ( 1894-1980 ) to the Champs Elysées, a new theater that both Madeleine Renaud and Jean -Louis Barrault, initiated until her death in 1994.
