Jens Köppen

Jens Koeppen ( born January 6, 1966 in Kyritz ) is a former rower from the German Democratic Republic, which was active for a united Germany from 1991. In 1988 he won the Olympic bronze medal with the quadruple sculls.

Köppen rowed for the SG Dynamo Potsdam. He was twice World Junior Champion: 1983 in the double sculls and 1984 in One. From 1985, he was the fifth consecutive GDR champion sculls. In 1985, he won his first international medal when the GDR sculls in the cast Uwe Sägling, Rüdiger Reiche, Jens Koeppen and Karl -Heinz Bussert at the World Championships silver medal behind the Canadian Boat won, for which he received the Patriotic Order of Merit in silver. His second major medal he won together with Steffen Bogs, Steffen Zühlke and Heiko Habermann at the 1988 Olympics in Seoul, where the quadruple sculls reached the bronze medal behind the boats from Italy and Norway. He was awarded the Patriotic Order of Merit in bronze for this success. After the fourth place at the World Rowing Championships in 1989 ended Koppen's actual career.

At the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona in double sculls came on the German champion in the one from 1990 and the German Christian Händle champion lightweight One of the 1991 Peter Uhrig. After Uhrig and Händle had won her forward, Jens Koeppen filled in for Peter Uhrig. Together with Christian Händle he reached the B final and finished there in second place.

Jens Koeppen worked as a tax consultant and is a volunteer at the Potsdamer Rudergesellschaft active.
