Jeroen Van Herzeele

Jeroen Van Herzeele (* September 13, 1965 in Zottegem ) is a Belgian jazz saxophonist ( tenor, soprano saxophone), flutist and composer.

Life and work

Van Herzeele studied at the Antwerp Jazz Studio with Dave Pike, Peter and John Ruocco Hertmans and attended workshops by Joe Lovano, Dave Liebman, Steve Grossman and Bill Pierce.

From 1997 he played in the avant-garde jazz band Mâäk `s Spirit of Laurent Blondiau. Next he played among others in the band Octurn the saxophonist and clarinetist Bo Van der Werf ( which is always at least three saxophonist plays ), with whom he at the North Sea Jazz Festival and performed at the Knitting Factory and the Montreal Jazz Festival 1994 1997. He teaches saxophone and ensemble performance at the Royal Conservatory in Brussels. He also launched its own Acid Jazz Band Greetings from Mercury, plays with own trio ( debut album At the Crossroads, Carbon 7, 1995) and in the quintet and quartet of Ben Sluijs.

He took along with others, Toots Thielemans, Philip Catherine, David Linx and Nathalie Loriers.

In 1999 he received the Django d' Or ( Belgium).
