Jerónimo Tomás Abreu Herrera

Jerónimo Tomás Abreu Herrera ( born September 30, 1930 in Jarabacoa, Dominican Republic, † 27 June, 2012 Cacique, Monción ) was Roman Catholic Bishop of Mao - Monte Cristi.

Life

Jerónimo Tomás Herrera Abreu came in 1948 in the Pontifical Seminary of St. Thomas Aquinas ( Pontifical Seminary of Santo Tomás de Aquino ) in Santo Domingo and graduated from the priestly philosophical and theological studies. At the Universidad Católica Santo Domingo he graduated in philosophy and received on 29 June 1955, the ordination. At the Roman Pontifical Lateran University, he received his doctorate in canon law. He visited more pastoral courses at the Institute of Latin American Pastoral ( PILA) in Quito, Ecuador.

He was vicar, Vice Chancellor, Chancellor and Vice- pastor at the Catedral de la Inmaculada Concepcion in La Vega. He also served as pastor of Our Lady of Fatima in Bonao and Vicar for Pastoral and pastor of Bonao y de San Francisco de Macoris.

Pope Paul VI. appointed him on 16 January 1978 as Bishop of Mao - Monte Cristi based in Mao. The Archbishop of Santo Domingo and the Military Ordinariate of the Dominican Republic, Octavio Antonio Cardinal Beras Rojas, donated to him on the 4th of March of the same year, the episcopal ordination; Roque Antonio Adames were co-consecrators Rodríguez, Bishop of Santiago de los Caballeros, and Juan Antonio Flores Santana, Bishop of La Vega.

Abreu was in 1978 as a member of the Dominican Episcopal Conference and delegate to the meetings of the Council of Latin American Bishops CELAM and Chairman of the Episcopal Commission for the Laity and Youth ( 1978) and Chairman of the Episcopal Commission for Catholic Education (1985). He was Chairman of the Executive Board of the Instituto del politécnico noroeste ( INPONOR ).
