Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Santiago de los Caballeros

The Archdiocese of Santiago de los Caballeros (Latin: Sancti Jacobi Archidioecesis Equitum, Spanish: Arquidiócesis de Santiago de los Caballeros ) is a location in the Dominican Republic Roman Catholic Archdiocese located in Santiago de los Caballeros.

History

The Archdiocese of Santiago de los Caballeros was born on September 25, 1953 by Pope Pius XII. built with the Papal Bull Si magna et excelsa out of territory of the Archdiocese of Santo Domingo as a diocese of Santiago de los Caballeros. It was the Archdiocese of Santo Domingo is a suffragan. The Diocese of Santiago de los Caballeros, on 16 January 1978 from parts of its territory to the founding of the dioceses Mao - Monte Cristi and San Francisco de Macoris.

On 14 February 1994, the Diocese of Santiago de los Caballeros by Pope John Paul II to the Pontifical Bull Solicitam sane curam was raised to an archbishopric. The Archdiocese of Santiago de los Caballeros announced on December 16, 1996 parts of its territory from the foundation of the Diocese of Puerto Plata. A further transfer of territory took place on 1 February 1997 foundation of the diocese of San Pedro de Macoris.
