Jessica Mauboy

Jessica Hilda Mauboy (* August 4, 1989 in Darwin) is an Australian R & B singer and actress who became known as a finalist in the fourth season of Australian Idol in 2006: It was number 2 behind Damien Leith. She is a member of the Australian girl group Young Divas.

After Australian Idol she has released two solo albums, which were awarded in Australia with gold or platinum. Their singles were also very successful, including the number -one hit Burn of 2009 in Australia. For her breakthrough success and it was a total of two ARIA Awards, the most important national music prize awarded. In 2012, she played one of the lead roles in the musical film adaptation of The Sapphires.

Jessica's father is of Indonesian descent, her mother comes from the Australian aborigines.

2006: Australian Idol

In 2006, Mauboy competed for the fourth season of Australian Idol in Alice Springs. Her performance with the song I Have Nothing by Whitney Houston liked the jury and the fans so much that she became a crowd favorite and the semi-finals managed effortlessly. During the season Mauboy sang several pop and R & B songs like Crazy in Love, Butterfly, and When You Believe.

On 27 November 2006 Mauboy sang with the second finalist Damien Leith in the finale at the Sydney Opera House. In the end, Jessica lost the final against Leith and came in second.

2006-2008: The Journey and Young Divas New Attitude with the

On December 10, 2006 two weeks after the final of Australian Idol, Mauboy signed a recording contract with Sony BMG. Denis Handlin of Sony BMG announced that Mauboys debut album will be released in mid-2007. On December 24, 2006 Mauboy When a Child Is Born and Mariah Carey's All I Want for Christmas Is You sang at the Carols by Candlelight event in Melbourne. On February 24, 2007 Mauboy released her debut album, The Journey, a live album with her idol performances in Australia. The album debuted at number four in the Australian album charts and was certified gold for selling over 35,000 copies. On 1 March 2007 Mauboy had an appearance in the Channel Seven broadcast Sunrise. She sang Beautiful. She recorded the song Right Up Higher, which is the intro of the show The Catch-Up. In April 2007, Mauboy was seen in advertisements for Head & Shoulders.

On 26 September 2007, after long speculation Mauboy was a member of the girl group Young Divas. Mauboy came for Ricki -Lee Coulter in the group. The debut album by the group was published in June 2007. The first Young Divas single Turn Me Loose was released on 17 November 2007 and debuted at number 21 of the Australian charts, and later the single reached 15th place, the second studio album by the group (and the first with Mauboy ) New Attitude was one weeks later published on 24 November and debuted at # 10, the album was later certified gold, it was Mauboys second gold album. On 28 March 2008 the second single Turn Me Loose by New Attitude should be published, but it never came. In June 2008, Mauboy sang at Indonesian Idol songs Crazy in Love and Sempurna. 24 August 2008 Mauboy left the girl group Young Divas after only one year in order to focus on her solo career.

2008-2009: Been Waiting

In summer 2008, Mauboy began work on their first studio album Been Waiting. Mauboys debut solo single Running Back was released on 23 September 2008 in Australia, reaching # 3 on the charts. The single was double platinum for more than 140,000 copies sold excellent .. Their debut album, Been Waiting was published on 22 November 2008 and reached number 11 on the album charts. The album was certified platinum.

Mauboys second single Burn was published on 6 December 2008 and debuted at number 30, after 7 weeks, the song reached No. 1 on the ARIA charts and was Mauboys first number -one hit in Australia. The single reached platinum status after some time and was more than 20 weeks in the Australian top ten. Your next four singles all reached top rankings in the Australian charts, Let Me Be Me was certified gold.

Together with the U.S. rapper Flo Rida Jessica stepped from 15 to 24 September 2009 as the opening act for the Australian part of Beyoncé's I Am ... Tour on.

On 8 October 2009 Jessica was nominated for seven categories at the ARIA Awards: Highest Selling Single ( Burn & Running Back ), Highest Selling Album, Best Pop Release, Breakthrough Artist Single ( running back ), Breakthrough Artist Album & Best Female Artist. Mauboy sang Burn at the ARIA Awards on 26 November 2009, she won only the award for Highest Selling Single category for Running Back.

Early 2010, Mauboy played the main role in the movie musical Bran Nue Dae. Directed by Rachel Perkins, Mauboy played alongside other stars like Ernie Dingo, Geoffrey Rush, Missy Higgins and Deborah Mailman. The film came in the Australian cinemas on 14 January 2010.

From March 2010, Mauboy was working on her second studio album, Get ' Em Girls, which was released on November 5, 2010 in Australia. Mauboy wrote songs and took her into the United States along with Iyaz and Jay Sean on. The album's title track reached # 19 on the charts and has been much criticized. The single received no award. With their second single from the album, Saturday Night with U.S. rapper and singer Ludacris, Mauboy scored a smash hit. The song debuted at its highest position at # 7 on the Australian singles chart and was awarded double platinum for more than 140,000 copies sold. The album Get ' Em Girls debuted at number six and became their second Top Ten album. It was certified gold.

On 12 August 2011, the deluxe edition of the album was released. It contains five new songs and remixes of hit singles Saturday Night, What Happened to Us and Inescapable. On 22 August 2011, the new album debuted at number 9 in the album charts again and spent several weeks in the top 50 of the charts. On October 28, 2011, she released the fifth single from the album, with the Australian pop singer Galaxy Stan Walker. The song reached # 13 and was certified platinum.

In 2012, Mauboy played the role of Julie McCrae in the Australian music movie The Sapphires, based on the eponymous Australian musical from 2004. It was directed by Wayne Blair, Mauboy played alongside other stars such as Deborah Mailman, Shari Sebbens and Miranda Tapsell. Mauboy recorded 15 songs for the soundtrack to the film, which reached # 1 and was certified platinum. The first single from the album reached # 43 Gotcha and was certified gold.

2013 -present: Beautiful

In February 2013 it was announced that Mauboys version of Etta James' Something 's Got a Hold on Me is used as the theme song of the National Rugby League season 2013. The song was released on February 27 as a single and reached # 26 in the ARIA charts.

Mauboys third studio album Beautiful was published on 4 October and debuted at # 3 on the ARIA album charts. It thus became their highest -placed album so far. The first single from the album To the End of the Earth was released on July 17, reached # 21 in the ARIA charts and was certified gold. On 27 September, the second single from the album Pop a Bottle ( Fill Me Up ) was released. It debuted at number two and was certified platinum. In the New Zealand charts, the song debuted at number 33 and thus led to their second international success. The title track of the album, Beautiful, was released as the third single and reached number 46 in the ARIA charts.

Mauboys singles reached so far getting top rankings in the top 20 of the Australian singles charts. Their albums were represented in the top 15.

The Journey: A few weeks after Australian Idol Jessica Mauboy released The Journey, a live album with songs that they had sung Idol in the Top 12 phase at Australian. The album reached number 4 in its first week on the album charts and spent six weeks in the Top 50, it was certified gold.

Turn Me Loose ( Young Divas ): In her time as a member of the girl group Young Divas, the band released the single Turn Me Loose, reached the 15th place of the single charts.

Running Back (feat. Flo Rida ): Mauboys debut single Running Back reached # 3 on the singles charts and was awarded double platinum. The song was honored in 2009 with an ARIA Award for Highest Selling Single.

Burn: Your second single from her debut album Been Waiting debuted at number 30 on the charts and reached its eighth week Course 1 The song was nominated for an ARIA Award for Highest Selling Single in 2009.

Been Waiting ( Single): Been Waiting reached number 12 in the charts and was certified gold.

Because: Because reached number 9 in the charts and became her third top ten hit. Mauboy mentioned several times that Because is her favorite song from her debut album Been Waiting. It was certified gold.

Up / Down: Mauboys fifth single from her debut album Been Waiting reached number 11 on the charts and became the party anthem. The song was certified gold.

Let Me Be Me: The sixth and final single from her debut album reached only number 26 of the singles chart, and spent a few weeks in the Top 50, the song is the single from her debut album, which received no award.

Been Waiting (Album): Mauboys first studio album Been Waiting reached # 11 on the album charts and was awarded double platinum. It was also nominated for several ARIA Awards and an MTV Award.

Get ' Em Girls ( feat. Snoop Dogg ) ( Single): The first single from the same- Mauboys album was heavily criticized and reached number 19 of the Australian singles charts. It was only a few weeks in the Australian Top 50 and received no award.

Saturday Night (feat. Ludacris ): With the second single from her album Get ' Em Girls Mauboy scored a smash hit. The song reached number 7 in the charts and spent 10 weeks in the Top 10 was awarded double platinum.

What Happened to Us ( feat. Jay Sean ): The third single from their album Get ' Em Girls got positive reviews and debuted at number 30 on the charts before it reached number 14 in its second week. The song was certified platinum.

Inescapable: Inescapable was released as the first single from the Deluxe Edition of Mauboys second studio album, Get ' Em Girls, on 15 July 2011. The single reached # 4 on the Australian singles chart and was awarded double platinum.

Galaxy (feat. Stan Walker): The fifth single from Jessica Mauboys second album was released on October 28.
