Jim Craig (ice hockey)

James Downey "Jim" Craig ( born May 31, 1957 in North Easton, Massachusetts ) is a retired American professional ice hockey goaltender and coach, from 1979 to 1984 for the Atlanta Flames, Boston Bruins and Minnesota North Stars of the National Hockey League played. At the legendary Miracle on Ice, the Olympic victory of the United States in 1980, he was goalkeeper of the U.S. team. Craig is a member of the United States Hockey Hall of Fame.

Career

Craig began his career in 1976 his studies at Boston University. He was pulled in the NHL Amateur Draft 1977 in the 4th round 72nd by the Atlanta Flames played here but only one season (1979 /80).

He was the goalkeeper of the U.S. ice hockey team that won the gold medal at the 1980 Winter Olympics. The 4-3 U.S. victory against the then all-powerful Soviet Union went down in sports history as the Miracle on Ice. When Olympic victory he kept the team in the game, even though he was gone for a body check by Valeri Kharlamov on the ground and obviously was in pain.

Then he worked for the 1980/81 season to the Boston Bruins. This was followed by two years in the lower classes before leaving for three games to the Minnesota North Stars returned again in the NHL for the 1983/84 season.

The U.S. national hockey team he belonged to 1979-1983.

From 1994 to 1996, he coached the hockey team from Northeastern University.

For his achievements in the sport, he was honored with induction into the IIHF Hall of Fame in 1999.
