1979–80 NHL season
The NHL 1979/80 season was the 63rd season in the National Hockey League. 21 teams each played 80 games. The Stanley Cup won by the New York Islanders after a 4-1 victory in the final series against the Philadelphia Flyers. After the era of the WHA had ended, the WHA teams in the NHL joined. With the Edmonton Oilers, the Hartford Whalers, Quebec Nordiques and the Winnipeg Jets four seasoned teams came into the NHL, and with them came both the past and the future in the NHL. The now 51 -year-old Gordie Howe came with Hartford back after eight years and scored 15 goals in his final NHL season last. In Edmonton were Mark Messier, but mainly Wayne Gretzky on the team, they should lead to the top league in a few years. As Gretzky managed Marcel Dionne Dionne had 137 points and since 2 goals more than Gretzky, he won the Art Ross Trophy, before Gretzky dominated read in the next seven years.
