1929–30 NHL season
The NHL season 1929/30, was the 13th season in the National Hockey League. Ten teams each played 44 games. The Stanley Cup won by the Canadiens after a 2-0 win in the final series against the Boston Bruins. Due to the goal drought in the early season ( 2.9 goals per game), the NHL changed its rules. Previously it was only allowed to carry the puck to the front and to play back passes. Now the ball was allowed to the front. Only through the blue lines could still not be fitted. The game was more quickly and there were significantly more goals ( 5.9 goals per game). Outstanding player was Boston Cooney Weiland. He benefited from the new rule and brought it to 73 points. The previous record of 51, the Howie Morenz had set up, was still surpassed by five other games. Morenz caused another innovation. With a shot he broke the Goalie of the Maroons Clint Benedict 's nose. When he later went back on the ice a few weeks, he was the first to goalkeeper a face mask made of leather.
