Work

Shapiro is known for his large-scale sculptures made of cast iron or bronze (and wood), consisting of bar-shaped elements - indiscriminately at first glance - welded together and seem unstable. Its form language Shapiro developed in the 1970s in dealing with the minimalism. Since the 1980s, the human figure for him became a recurring theme that he - holds mostly in a state of motion or in a pose - in a highly stylized form. Where they remember a certain attitude, his sculptures can appeal to emotions in the viewer. Of his more than 20 works in public space are two of his bronzes to be found in Germany: Untitled ( 1994) before the Quartier 205, Berlin, and Untitled (1996/ 99) in Cologne Sculpture Park. Among his most famous works in the public space is one of the sculpture in front of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, DC
