Johan van Herck

Johan van Herck ( born May 24, 1974 in Herentals, Belgium ) is a former Belgian tennis player.

Life

Van Herck began playing at the age of six years of tennis. He reached the quarter-finals of the 1992 Junior Tournament of the French Open. He was a professional tennis player in 1993 and first played on the ATP Satellite Tour to win first world ranking points. In the same year he played his first match on the ATP World Tour. In 1994 he reached the final of the Challenger tournament in Ostend and stood with four other tournaments in the semifinals. The following year he won three Challenger tournaments, and was consequently been listed in the top 100 of the world tennis rankings. Throughout his career he has won eight tournaments on the Challenger Tour. His greatest success on the ATP World Tour semi-finals were in Palermo, Copenhagen and Delray Beach. The highest quotation in the tennis world ranking he reached in 1997 with position 65 in the individual as well as position 291 in doubles.

His best individual result at a Grand Slam tournament was reaching the third round at the French Open in 1998 when he won the world rankings Fourth Greg Rusedski hit in its first round game in three sets.

Van Herck played between 1995 and 1999 10 single and 2 double appearances for the Belgian Davis Cup team. His single balance was 7:3, here he scored victories over Yevgeny Kafelnikov, Thomas Enqvist and Cédric Pioline. His two double games he lost. Since 2012 he is the captain of the Belgian team.
