Johann Gottlieb Görner

Johann Gottlieb Gorner ( born April 16, 1697 in Penig, † February 15, 1778 in Leipzig ) was a German composer and organist.

Life

Gorner attended the Thomas School in Leipzig and studied at the University of Leipzig. In 1716 he became organist of the university church and in 1721 at the Nikolai Church. From 1723 to 1756 he directed the Collegium was founded in 1708 by Johann Friedrich Fasch Musicum, which competed with Johann Sebastian Bach. 1723 he was musical director of the University Church.

His brother was Johann Valentin Gorner.
