John Clark (footballer born 1941)

John Clark ( born March 13, 1941 in Bellshill, Lanarkshire ) is a former Scottish footballer. He was one of the Lisbon Lions who won the European Champions Cup in 1967.

Career

As a player

Clark joined in 1958 by FC Larkhall Thistle after Parkhead. In a cup match against Hibernian, where he scored his first goal. After this gate and the hiring of coach Jock Stein he finally made ​​a breakthrough with the Celtics. He then won with a total of six times the Glasgow Cup, four times the Cup six times and the League Cup. This he took with him several times at the Celtic European Cup and was able in 1967 after victories against FK Dukla Prague and FC Nantes win the European Champion Clubs' Cup. After thirteen years, he left Celtic and ultimately moved to Greenock Morton. In Greenock, he played two years in the first division and were each thirteenth and fourteenth before he finished his career.

He also ran four times for the Scottish national team, scoring no goals.

As a coach

Eleven years after the end of his playing career, he began to work as a coach. In the third division, he took over FC Cowdenbeath and this led to fourth place in the final standings. During the following season, he took over briefly as coach of FC Stranraer, but could there not prevent the descent into Viertklassigkeit. The second division side FC Clyde then gave him a long-term employment. He escaped the descent often only just before he could not take him in the 1990/91 season. When he thus failed the direct re-emergence he left office and ended his coaching career.
