John Francis Cunningham (bishop)

John Francis Cunningham ( born June 20, 1842 in Irremore, County Kerry, Ireland, † June 23, 1919 ) was an American clergyman and bishop of Concordia.

Life

John Francis Cunningham received on August 8, 1865 the Vicar Apostolic of Kansas, John Baptiste Miege, SJ, the sacrament of Holy Orders and was from 1874 to the clergy of the diocese of Leavenworth.

On May 14, 1898, he was named Pope Leo XIII. Bishop of Concordia. The Archbishop of Saint Louis, John Joseph Cain, donated to him on 21 September of the same year the episcopal ordination; Co-consecrators were the Bishop of Wichita, John Joseph Hennessy, and the Bishop of Lincoln, Thomas Bonacum.
