John Lindberg

John Arthur III Lindberg ( born March 16, 1959 in Royal Oak, Michigan) is an American jazz bassist and composer.

Lindberg studied double bass with David Izenzon and Dave Holland. He retired with 18 years in New York City and first played at Charles Bobo Shaw. The mid-1970s he founded with violinist Billy Bang and guitarist James Emery the String Trio of New York, with whom he has recorded several albums (including with Jay Clayton and with Oliver Lake ); instead of Bang later played Charles Burnham and Regina Carter. From 1979 to 1985 Lindberg belonged to Anthony Braxton Quartet; He recorded a duo with Braxton and Keshavan Maslak with. He plays a hand in John Lindberg Ensemble with Wadada Leo Smith, Andrew Cyrille and Larry Ochs ( from Rova Saxophone Quartet ), on the other hand, in John Lindberg Quartet, he is currently working with Steve Gorn, Susie Ibarra and Baikida Carroll (whose album " Winter Birds " in 2005 be published). He also plays in a duo with Karl Berger.

In the last 25 years Lindberg lived partly in Europe. He continued to collaborate with Jimmy Lyons, Steve Lacy, Tony Coe, Eric Watson, Albert Mangelsdorff, George Lewis, Martin Mayes, Theo Jörgensmann, Barry Altschul, Wolfgang Schmidtke and Ed Thigpen. Lindberg has worked on more than 60 recordings, including two dozen under his own name.
