The Passion and Electric Light Orchestra

Back in England he called his own band to life. The Passion consisted of Payne, keyboardist Andy Nye (from the Michael Schenker Group ), drummer Clive Burr ( Iron Maiden ), bassist Mel Gabbitas and the ex - Mike Oldfield guitarist Ant Glynne.

Shortly after the formation of the band Payne got the offer to join a launched by Bev Bevan new Electric Light Orchestra lineup. Jim Steinman also should participate in the project. But the attempt failed due to judicial intervention Jeff Lynne and Payne returned empty-handed back to England to take up the work with The Passion again. At a concert of the band Geoffrey Downes became aware of him and some time later, when Payne with Glenn Hughes worked on a new album, Downes asked him if he did not want to join a new Asia- lineup. Payne told. He brought some of The Passion and E.L.O. written songs with, which were later released on the Asian rarities albums Archiva 1 and 2, and Archiva on regular studio albums of the band.

Asia
