John Tait Robertson

John Tait Robertson (born 25 January 1877 in Dumbarton, Scotland, † February 24, 1935 in Wiltshire, England) was a Scottish football player and coach.

Robertson, who played in defense, had at the beginning of his career short stays at Everton and Southampton FC, until he found the breakthrough in the Glasgow Rangers. With the club he was three-time Scottish champion and made ​​the jump to the Scottish national team. In 16 games 1898-1905 he scored three goals, all against Wales, three times he led the national team as a captain on the field.

1905 Robertson moved to England and became player-coach of the first full-time coach of the newly formed Chelsea. He even managed the first goal of the club in a competitive match as he scored the winning goal in a 1-0 win against FC Blackpool. Although he had the club brought in third place of the Second Division a decent success, Robertson left the club after just one year to go as player-coach to Glossop. He remained there until 1909, after which Robertson was coach of the reserve team of Manchester United.
