The rural community Jõhvi ( Jõhvi vald ) is located in north -east Estonia in Ida -Viru county.

Geography

The area of ​​the municipality is 116.45 km ² land. 12,665 inhabitants live in it (as of July 1, 2012). The population density is 109 inhabitants per square kilometer.

Structure

The main town of the country church is Tammiku. For the rural municipality includes the town and the villages Edise Jõhvi, Jõhvi Kahula, Kose, Kotinuka, Linna, Pajualuse, Pargitaguse, Pauliku, Puru, and Sompa Tammiku.

History

1946 started on the territory of the municipality with the extensive mining of oil shale. This led on the one hand to a strong influx of workers into the municipality and the great environmental problems. The gradual decline of the oil shale mining in Estonia represents the community before unmet social challenges.
