Jon Casey

Jon Casey ( born August 29, 1962 in Grand Rapids, Michigan ) is a retired American professional ice hockey goaltender in his playing days from 1980 to 1998 among others for the Minnesota North Stars, Boston Bruins and St. Louis Blues in the National Hockey League has played.

Career

Jon Casey began his career as a hockey player at the University of North Dakota, which he attended from 1980 to 1984 while he was playing in parallel for their hockey team in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association. There, the goalkeeper received several individual awards, after which he signed a contract as a free agent with the Minnesota North Stars on 1 April 1984. In these he gave towards the end of the 1983/84 season his debut in the National Hockey League, as he stood between the posts twice for the North Stars. In the following nine years he became the regular keeper of Minnesota, where he also for its farm teams Baltimore Skipjacks and Springfield Indians of the American Hockey League as well as Kalamazoo Wings in the International Hockey League was parallel to the ice. There he was able to draw attention to themselves, particularly in the 1984/85 season, when he was the player of the Skipjacks the Harry " Hap " Holmes Memorial Award as a goalkeeper with the niedrigisten Gegentorschnitt and the Aldege " Baz " Bastien Award as the best goalkeeper in the AHL. Due to its good performance in the North Stars, he was rewarded with a nomination for the NHL All-Star Game in 1993.

After the Minnesota North Stars were relocated, their successor Dallas Stars team transferred him to the 1993/94 season in the NHL with the Boston Bruins. With these he was able to convince at first as goalkeeper. He spent the next three years with the St. Louis Blues, but played mainly for their farm team the Peoria Rivermen of the IHL and Worcester IceCats from the AHL. Most recently, he appeared in the 1997/98 season for the Kansas City Blades IHL team, before he ended his career at the age of 36 years.

For the U.S., Casey took part in the U20 Junior World Cup 1982 and the A - 1990 World Cup.
