Jonathan Mensah

Jonathan Mensah ( born July 13, 1990 in Accra ) is a Ghanaian football player who is under contract with the French first division club FC Evian Thonon Gaillard since 2011.

Career

Mensah played in his youth for Ashanti Gold from Obuasi and was a member of the Ghanaian Junior National Teams. He belongs to the successful generation who only won the African Youth Championship and the FIFA U- 20 World Cup 2009.

With almost 18 years, he moved already to South Africa where he played for the Free State Stars from Bethlehem in the top division of the country. After the U-20 success European clubs showed interest in the young central defender. A change to Panathinaikos Athens but failed. Finally, he was taken in early 2010 by Udinese Calcio in Italy under contract, but loaned him immediately to Spain to FC Granada. There, he played 15 games for the Spanish second division. At the beginning of the season 2011/12 he moved for an undisclosed transfer fee for French team FC Evian Thonon Gaillard.

National

Mensah played for the Ghanaian U -20 selection, which in 2009 won the U-20 World Cup. On January 5, 2010 Jonathan Mensah was the first time for the national team of Ghana on the court. In the pre-season games for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, he was still used a few times and included in the World Cup squad of Africans. At the World Cup he came to three inserts.
