Joni Pitkänen

Joni Pitkänen ( born September 19, 1983 in Oulu) is a Finnish professional ice hockey player standing since 2008 with the Carolina Hurricanes in the National Hockey League contract.

Career

Joni Pitkänen started his career in the Finnish SM- liiga in Kärpät Oulu. From the season 2003/ 04 prevented Pitkänen the NHL Philadelphia Flyers club gates that him in the first round as the fourth player overall, committed in the NHL Entry Draft in 2002. After a good first season, Pitkänen was during the failed NHL season 2004/ 05 for the Flyers farm team, the Philadelphia Phantoms of the American Hockey League, with whom he won the Calder Cup. After the resumption of gaming operations in the NHL Pitkänen 2005 went back to the Flyers and was the best scorer among the defenders of the Flyers with 46 points scorer in 58 games.

On 14 July 2006 Pitkänen extended his contract with the Flyers.

On 1 July 2007 the Finnish defenders along with Geoff Sanderson and a third round draft NHL Entry Draft in 2009 was transferred to Jason Smith and Joffrey Lupul to the Edmonton Oilers. On 20 July 2007 he signed a one-year contract.

On 1 July 2008 Joni Pitkänen was transferred as a replacement for Erik Cole of the Carolina Hurricanes, where he one day later one doped with twelve million U.S. dollar contract signed.

In April 2013, Pitkänen moved in a challenge to a touch -icing a fracture of the calcaneus and falls to the entire 2013/14 season from.
