Jónsi
Jón Þór " Jónsi " Birgisson ( born April 23, 1975 in Iceland ) is the guitarist and singer of the Icelandic post-rock band Sigur Rós.
Biography
Jón Þór " Jónsi " Birgisson was born blind in one eye. Once he said. " If I saw in stereo I'd go mad" ( " Would I see in both eyes, I'd be crazy. " ) He lives with his boyfriend Alex Somers.
Musical Career
Jónsi from 1992 to 1993, the frontman for the grunge rock band " stoned" under the name " Frakkur ." In 1995, he became the lead singer of the band " Bee Spiders " under the name " Jonny B" to the "Most Interesting Band" award.
In 1994, Jónsi together with Georg Hólm and Ágúst Ævar Gunnarsson, the band Sigur Rós, which is after Jónsis little sister who was born on the day of formation of the band, named.
Jónsi has a falsetto -like vocal style, which he supports with the sounds of a played with a cello bow electric guitar.
Since 2006 he is working with his partner on a solo project. The first release was under the name Riceboy Sleeps on the Dark- What -the -night compilation. In July 2009, the first album of the two under Jónsi & Alex, the name of the album is the former band name Riceboy Sleeps appeared.
2010 Jón published his first solo album Go under the name " Jónsi ". The album was awarded the Nordic Music Prize. The single Around Us from this album is on the soundtrack of EA Sports ' FIFA 11. He also contributed the song " Sticks & Stones " for the soundtrack of the film to Train Your Dragon at ( in the film is the song played over the end credits ).
In 2011 he wrote the songs for Cameron Crowe's movie We Bought a Zoo.
Languages
Jónsis native language is Icelandic, but he talks like most Icelanders also English, but with an Icelandic accent. Sigur Rós first three albums (From, From brigði, Ágætis byrjun ) are sung with two exceptions (From, Olsen Olsen ) in Icelandic. All texts of the album "()" are in hoffnungsländisch (Icelandic " vonlenska "), a self-invented language that Jónsi previously was using to compose vocal melodies without having to have completed the accompanying text must. Even on newer albums Jónsi uses partly the language.
