José Domingo de Obaldía

José Domingo de Obaldía ( born January 30, 1845 in David, Chiriquí, Panama Province, † March 1, 1910 ) was the second President of the Republic of Panama.

Obaldia comes from a respected and well-known family in Panama, studying at a French college in New Haven, Connecticut. Upon his return to Panama, he married Manuela Jovane, also a distinguished family entstammend, and led successfully the business of his father. After the early death of his wife he married her sister.

At this time he joined the Partido Liberal Nacional and devoted himself to politics. From 1904 to 1908 he was Vice President of Panama. On 1 October 1908 he took office as the successor of Manuel Amador Guerrero president and remained in office until his death on March 1, 1910. He was succeeded by Carlos Antonio Mendoza.
