José Lebrún Moratinos

José Alí Cardinal Lebrun Moratinos ( born March 19, 1919 in Puerto Cabello, Venezuela, † February 21, 2001 in Caracas ) was Archbishop of Caracas.

Life

José Alí Lebrun Moratinos received his philosophical and theological education in Caracas, Rome and Bogotá. He received on 19 December 1943, the sacrament of Holy Orders, and then worked as a lecturer, cleric and rector church pastor. As director, he managed the editorial board of the newspaper "El Carabobeño ". In addition, he held various responsibilities in the administration of the diocese of Valencia.

Pope Pius XII. 1956 appointed him titular bishop of Aradus and Auxiliary Bishop of Maracaibo. In 1958, José Alí Lebrun Moratinos Bishop of Maracay, 1962 Bishop of Valencia in Venezuela. He participated in the years 1962-1965 at the Second Vatican Council. Pope Paul VI. appointed him in 1972 Titular Archbishop of Voncaria and Koadjutorerzbischof of the Archdiocese of Caracas, whose archbishop José Alí Lebrun Moratinos was on 24 May 1980. Pope John Paul II took him on 2 February 1983 as a cardinal priest with the titular church of San Pancrazio to the College of Cardinals. José Alí Cardinal Lebrun Moratinos resigned from the leadership of the Archdiocese of Caracas in 1995 for reasons of age.

He died on 21 February 2001 in Caracas and was buried in the local cathedral.
