José Luis González (athlete)

José Luis González (José Luis González Sánchez, born December 8, 1957 in Villaluenga de la Sagra, Toledo ) is a former Spanish middle and long distance runners.

His strongest discipline was the 1500 -meter run. Over this distance, he celebrated at the World Athletics Championships 1987 in Rome the greatest success of his career when he won the silver medal behind Abdi Bile and before Jim Spivey. Three times he took part in the Olympic Games: in 1980 in Moscow, he reached the semifinals, 1984 in Los Angeles and in Barcelona in 1992, he retired from the lead. At the European Athletics Championships in 1990 in Split, he was sixth at the 1991 World Championships in Tokyo, he came into the semi-finals. In addition, González was 1500 m European Indoor champion three times, once Hall Vice World Champion and four times Spanish champion.

In the 3000 -meter run González 1987 in Liévin and 1988 in Budapest European Indoor Champion and 1989 in Budapest hall runner-up. He was once Spanish champion in the 5000 -meter run and twice in cross country skiing on the long haul. 1983 and 1987 he won the San Silvestre Vallecana.

José Luis González is 1,80 m tall and weighed 63 kg in his playing days.
